That's a Wrap; Year Two of College

Several days ago, I completed my second year of college, which means I’m officially a junior in college! About a year ago, I wrote an article reflecting on my first year of college, and now I’m reflecting on my second year of college.

My sophomore year of college was amazing. I truly believe that each year of college gets better because you get to move out of the dorms and into an apartment with friends and you feel more comfortable with campus. This school year, I met more people, was reunited with a long lost friend, accepted a job on campus, joined a club, and took on a leadership role in my sorority.

I’m looking back on my second year and it's crazy to see how much I have grown as a leader, employee, student, daughter, friend, and roommate. So here’s a summary of everything that happened the past school year.

I moved into an apartment with my best friend and gained two more best friends that I get to call my roommates now, as well as next year. I’m so glad Danielle and I became roommates with Carly and Claire. We have all become so close, and I can’t wait for more fun adventures in our new house together. They truly have become my best friends.

I was reunited with a friend from ten years ago. Clare came back into my life after 10 years of being separated, and she ended up becoming my little in my sorority. She also brought my new little, Laura, into my life, as well as all of their friends. We had lots of adventures together from going to Disneyland together to walking the streets of North Park in San Diego. I know we have many more adventures to come in the future.

Another thing I did this school year was I joined a club on campus that is related to my specific college. Joining this club allowed me feel more involved and gave me confidence in my leadership skills.

During my second semester, I accepted an on-campus job. I enjoy my job, and it has allowed me to feel more confident as a leader and as an employee. It also has allowed me to gain valuable experience in the workplace.

Something else that happened second semester that I'm excited about is that I finally declared my minor as Spanish. I’m excited to continue to learn this language, and hopefully, one day reach my goal of becoming fluent. I also plan on studying abroad next summer in Spain, which I know will be an amazing experience.

I also decided I wanted to get back into dance, so I am taking a dance class next semester. I’m coming out of dance retirement. The reason I decided to take dance classes again is that I realized that this is my one opportunity to take classes that interest me before I go into the workforce. When I graduate, I don’t want to have any regrets and wishing that I took classes for fun and to got out of my comfort zone.

At the end of the semester, I accepted a leadership position in my sorority for the fall semester. I am excited to further my leadership skills and gain more experience while helping my chapter grow. I also received an award for most service hours done by a sophomore in my chapter. During the school year, I spent every couple Friday's volunteering at a cat shelter. I would go with Danielle, my little, and sometimes my roommate Claire. I want to continue volunteering there because it’s something I enjoy doing.

In the next couple of weeks, I will be moving into a house, working, traveling, and hanging out with friends. I am so excited for the rest of my college experience because I know it will just keep getting better. I’m ready to take on junior year, after summer break of course!

I’m grateful that I have amazing friends and family that support my crazy dreams and visions. Thank you to everyone who made my second year of college better than my first year of college.

Forever always,

Emily Escobar
