Hannah Ashton, also known as MissHannahAshton on YouTube, has been a content creator for over a decade. She started her YouTube career over ten years ago with her American Girl Doll Channel. From there, her channel and brand grew with her as she grew up, and so did her community. Hannah is now known for her content based on organization, productivity, time management, and business tips.
In addition to her success as a YouTuber, she is also a successful entrepreneur who created her planner called the Dream Achieve Workbook.
When she’s not making YouTube videos or running a business, she is busy being a typical full-time student at Belmont University, where she is a junior studying entrepreneurship.
Before we dive deep into this blog post, I want to give a huge thank you to Hannah. Thank you for sitting down with me and answering my questions. I’m so glad we have had the opportunity to get to know each other!
Quote: “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
What is one word you would use to describe yourself?
“I would say passionate, just because I found what I love to do so young.”
What is something that you are most proud of?
“I am most proud of the community that I cultivated online.”
Hannah is most proud of being able to cultivate a community through her different social platforms. Through her platforms, she is able to connect with women with all different passions all over the world. She enjoys being able to connect and network with other passionate young women with similar interests.
Why did you start a Youtube channel and at what age?
Hannah started her YouTube channel when she was ten-years-old. Her channel was based around her American Girl dolls. At the beginning, she wasn’t allowed to show her face on camera, but that changed after she transitioned away from American Girl content to makeup and beauty content. From there, her channel has grown up with her. Now, she shares with her subscribers how she balances being an influencer, college student, and business owner. It’s not easy, but she is able to motivate others to be productive and work hard. Her YouTube is an outlet to express all of her different interests.
What was the most difficult part of starting a business at a young age?
“Realizing you’re not going to have all the answers.”
Starting a business is a huge task within itself, but starting a business at a young age comes with more bouts of anxiety and nervousness.
Hannah also explained how important it is to have a mentor to help guide you through the process or give advice.
Why or what inspired you to make the dream achieve workbook?
“I wanted to do more than just YouTube.”
During her freshman year of college, Hannah was using multiple planners, one for school and one to manage her YouTube and influencer tasks. She didn’t like either of her planners and thought there could be a more effective product.
She wanted to create a product where she could write down events, tasks, and assignments for both her education and her career. Thus, the Dream Achieve Workbook was born. Some of the best things are created and thought up in a college dorm room.
How do you balance being a student, business owner and influencer?
“I prioritize my weekends”
Hannah has a lot to balance with being a full-time college student, entrepreneur, and influencer. She has to be able to time manage and prioritize what matters to her.
She fills most of her weekdays with work and school work, so she can enjoy her weekends. She blocks her days to stay organized and to make the most of her time.
What do you plan on doing after you graduate?
“It's still not decided. I have a year and half until I graduate.”
Hannah wants to continue to work for her business and brand but has been testing out the waters of working for someone else with an internship. Hannah still has plenty of time to figure out what her next steps are, as she is a junior.
What do you think your followers get wrong about you?
“I'm more of an average college student than people think.”
One thing that Hannah thinks her followers get wrong about her is that her followers think that she “has her life together.” Sometimes Hannah feels scared that she can’t have a lazy day because it goes against her brand. She is trying to post more about her lazy days on Instagram, but worries it's not the type of content her community wants to see from her.
What do you want your followers to gain from consuming your content?
Hannah wants her followers to feel motivated and inspired. Her channel and social platforms are a place where her followers can feel inspired to be productive. She is also starting to create more content geared toward starting a business at a young age.
As one of Hannah’s followers, I can say that she does inspire me to be more productive. I believe that Hannah helps young women organize their time and even inspire them to start their side-hustles.
What has been getting you through COVID/lockdown ?
One thing that has stood out to me while doing these interviews is that the content creators that I have talked to have all said similar things about lockdown and how their creativity has kept them busy.
Hannah was no different; she continued to work and even spent more time devoted to her content since she had more time to focus on what she loves.
Again, I want to say thank you to Hannah for our great conversation and time.
Here is where you can find her!
Forever Always,
Emily
