As another summer comes to a close, I once again, sit here reflecting on the past three months. In the past three months, I have done several things that I am extremely proud of. I spent the first half of my summer working and living in my favorite city, San Francisco, California. I got to spend time with my grandpa, whom I lived with while working in the city. I gained valuable experience working in retail and social media. On weekends, I would go back home to spend time with my family and friends. This was my favorite part of summer because I had the best of both worlds. I loved living in the city. My job there was temporary, so I only spent some of my summer living there, but I’m so glad I decided to take the opportunity. In addition to working and living in the city, I was also taking an online class. Although the class was only six weeks, I feel like I gained a lot from the material and found it interesting.
Once my job in the city was done, I came back home and started to babysit again. I spent time with my friends and had several girls' nights. We had a motto, “Summer is for the girls,” and I think our summer lived up to our motto. Our girls' nights would consist of: dinner, shopping, face masks, hot tubbing, and craft nights.
I also spent time with my guy friends, too. We would meet our local spot in town, Foster’s Freeze, and we would sit in our booth. We would have pool days, and we even spent the 4th of July together. I also took some of my friends to the city for day trips, where we would explore. We would also come together to celebrate birthdays together. Eventually, we started to say our see you laters as friends left.
It has been almost a whole year since most of my friends left home. A year later, and my friends are still a friend group. My dad commented the other day and explained that it is extraordinary that my friends have kept in contact. He also commented on how we still hang out for someone’s birthday or for a holiday. I know my dad is right.
Not only did I see my friends from high school, I saw my friends that I did not go to high school with, but have remained friends with since middle school. I helped one of those friends from middle school, Gretchen, make a fitness Instagram, so if you need some motivation, follow @gretchygetsfit. I also got to see one of my best guy friends from college because he was in the Bay Area with his family on a vacation. I also went to visit another friend from college, who lives a few towns away from me. I’m lucky to have all these people in my life.
Now, going back to the other things I have done during the second half of my summer: I went on a road trip with my family. I talked all about it in my last blog post, but I had such a fun time on that trip. I truly love exploring new places, and that trip was a great time. I went to a wedding and was in four states in eight days. It was fun to just hang out on the lake with my family.
Something else that I have been working on has to do with this blog. I have been interviewing women that inspire me. I have been asking them questions, each tailored to their lives and careers. I will have more posts from my interviews very soon. This project is something that I have been working hard on all summer. My project is called, “Aging Beautifully”. This project is all about inspiring and empowering women. The project first started with my mom’s idea and then, it took off, and I started asking family and friends if I could interview them. I want to make content that inspires and this project is something that I find very powerful and inspiring.
With a little less than two weeks left at home, I wanted to reflect on the past three months. I also want to cherish the time I have left with my family and friends at home. I always tend to feel most inspired in summer. So every summer, I try to cherish my time off from school and try to work on things I am truly passionate about.
Forever Always,
Emily
